Uplifting Black Health and Wellness

Dear MOSTe Family,

The calendar says it’s still winter, I know, but the camellia blossoms and jasmine buds already promise spring. If only the pandemic can recede as the new season arrives, we’ll be even happier to greet it. Meanwhile, with cautious optimism, MOSTe is planning an in-person event for later this month, and hopes to hold more in March.

We are thrilled to announce our Bay Area College Tour in April! MOSTe staff will escort 12 of our high school juniors up north to visit private and public colleges. They’ll meet students, explore the area, and gather ideas about the schools which will fit them best. Get those applications in, scholars – it’s going to be super fun!

Onwards,

Amy Ludwig
Executive Director

MOSTe in Action

A Day in the Life of a College Student

Scholars kicked off the new year by envisioning what a day in their college student life will look like. They explored options for class times and locations, clubs and activities, and of course, meals and snacks, considering their preferred learning and social environments as they built their ideal college schedule.

Be Part of Women’s History

March will be Women’s History Month! This year, we want to celebrate YOUR personal history on MOSTe’s social media. Please help us craft the narrative to spread positivity and empower more girls like you.

Mentor Moment

“Andrea R. was accepted into a program that allowed her to take pre-med classes with Harvard University as a high school student. She completed the program this January and at the end, she was awarded with a scholarship! Truly well-deserved!” –Mentor Isabel C.

“We had a great time in January! We came to my house to bake cakes, play games, and discuss academics and college.” –Mentor Terry H.

“We went to Seal Beach!” –Mentor Kim C.

“Natalie was so excited to share with me that she earned 50 volunteer hours with the Tournament of Roses, preparing for the parade. I am so proud of her – she worked her tail off that week! She was one of the top volunteers in terms of hours, so she won 2 Disneyland passes.” –Mentor Sarah H.

“We had a Zoom vision board session, where my mentees shared the goals they wanted to accomplish, events they were looking forward to and places they’d like to travel to in 2022.” –Mentor Katherina T.
