Sharing Summer Updates and Reflections

Dear MOSTe Family,

The weather has thankfully cooled off, but our 2022-23 activities are definitely heating up! Many thanks to ASU for hosting our Scholar, Parent/Guardian, and Mentor Orientation at their California Center last month. Check out the photos and event recap below.

We have an exciting “How to Make a Movie” panel coming up on September 29, organized by WiLD (Women in Legal at Disney). They have also invited us to the Disney lot for a tour this fall!

Save the date for our Wellness Fair at Carver Middle School on October 15. We’ll have fun, creative and self-care activities for mentors and scholars to do together. It’s also a wonderful day to introduce prospective mentors and supporters to what we do, so please spread the word.

Lastly, if you like the new look to our logo, just wait until you see our new website – coming soon!

Onward,

Amy Ludwig

MOSTe in Action

Scholar, Parent, and Mentor Orientation

We loved welcoming our 2022-2023 MOSTe Scholars at our Scholar, Parent/Guardian and Mentor Orientation! Our wonderful Youth Ambassadors led a workshop entitled “Building Happiness.” Students, mentors and parents identified goals for the year, and decorated birdhouses that reflected their visions, and the clear steps they will take to achieve them. Students also identified the people and resources in their network who can support them in achieving these goals We are excited to support the students, parents and mentors that make up the MOSTe community throughout the coming year!

Mentor Moment

Scholar’s Film Debut

Mentor Elba reports on her scholar’s big accomplishment: “Camila had a great time and learned so much from the Girls’ Voices Now summer program! Thanks to MOSTe, Camila had the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in the film industry.  I am so proud of her!”

Camila says: “This summer I had the opportunity to take part in Girl’s Voices Now, a program geared towards empowering young people like me to find, develop, and use their voice for social change through filmmaking. Over the course of five weeks, my team and I produced “We Can Do It,” a documentary short film about gender roles and how they affect people in their daily life. I am thrilled to announce that “We Can Do It” will screen at the 2022 Girl’s Voice’s Now film premiere at Mount Saint Mary’s University on October, 11th at 7 pm, showcasing the four short films that the GVN cohort produced this summer.”
