MOSTe August 2023 Newsletter

Dear MOSTe Family,

It’s almost that time again: to kick off a new school year, to welcome our new mentors and scholars, and to encourage our rising Class of 2024 to get down to work on their college applications. Our Orientation will be on Saturday, August 19th at ELAC.

We’re proud to be building on our strong impact from last year, which you can learn more about by reading our 2023 Impact Report or watching our new video.

Our amazing Director of Programs and Advising, Briseida Chavez, will be leaving us this month to focus on earning her master’s degree. We thank her for all her incredible efforts on behalf of our scholars and families, and wish her every success!

We’re also thrilled to announce that MOSTe has been awarded a generous $100,000 grant from Jack Dorsey’s philanthropic initiative, #startsmall, to support girls’ college access and success, and deeply grateful that they share our commitment to this crucial work.

Onward,

Amy Ludwig
Executive Director

MOSTe in Action

Youth Ambassador Orientation

In August MOSTe welcomed a new cohort of Youth Ambassadors for the year! We are so excited to have three returning and three new scholars joining us as leaders in the MOSTe community. This year we are excited to be extending the program for a full year to allow students to fully take advantage of this leadership opportunity. The Ambassadors are already coming up with great ideas for events and activities. Keep an eye out for all of the amazing work they will do!

Levitt Quinn Job Shadow Day

Heartfelt thanks to the Levitt Quinn Family Law Center for providing such a great opportunity and experience to four of our students! Last month, scholars were able to shadow attorneys at the Law Center, sit in on client meetings, and learn about important legal issues affecting families. Thank you to Levitt Quinn for another year of amazing partnership!

Staff Transitions

Dear Scholars, Families, and Mentors,

This month, I will be stepping down from my role as Director of Programs and Advising. Throughout these last five years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside such an amazing team and make great contributions to our MOSTe community.

MOSTe was my first job out of college, and I have learned so much from our smart, caring, and determined students. I am extremely grateful and honored to have shared so many beautiful experiences with you all. You all have inspired and prepared me for my next chapter in life!

This year, I will be completing my final year of my master’s program at CSULB and am excited to apply everything our scholars have taught me. And although I will no longer be at MOSTe, know that I am here as a resource if you ever need me. I will miss you all very much, and look forward to hearing about all of your amazing accomplishments!

With love,

Bri
