Etiquette
Before attending the annual MOSTE Lanterns Lunch Banquet, which is a formal lunch banquet that features as a keynote speaker a well-known young woman leader, the mentees attend a workshop that teaches them how to introduce individuals to one another and table etiquette.
Sex Education/Relationships
The sex education workshop is a more interactive workshop where the girls are provided the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the answers. The facilitator of the workshop covers reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases, birth control, male and female reproductive organs, the power of “NO”, self-esteem, and the signs and signals of sexual abuse. The girls are asked to write a mission statement describing how they expect to be treated in a relationship. Some of the possible misconceptions associated with sexual activity, relationships and love are discussed and reviewed through a relationship quiz.
Diversity
In an ever-shrinking world, the importance of learning to communicate with people who are unlike you cannot be emphasized enough. The diversity workshop addresses myths, generalizations and fallacies regarding race, ethnicity and culture. Role playing is an integral part of the workshop, illustrating the various scenarios where prejudice and racism may arise.
