WORKSHOPS / SPRING RETREAT

Workshops
A core and unique part of the MOSTE program is the required monthly in-school workshops presented by guest speakers. These workshops are designed to equip the mentees with a broad base of skills that are important as the young girls become young women. Mentors may attend these workshops, providing another point of interaction between the mentee and her mentor. Each year we focus on improving the in-school workshops, gleaning some of our ideas for improvement from surveys completed by the mentees regarding the prior year workshops. The in-school workshops address the following topics:

Budgeting
In the budgeting workshop, mentees are given a paycheck and asked to create a budget based on the amount of that paycheck that covers taxes, rent, healthcare, transportation, and other costs of living. The girls factor in credit use and the cost of credit to learn the importance of managing their debt to income ratio.

Study Skills/Career Skills
This two-in-one workshop emphasizes skills that are necessary for success both in school and in the workplace. Time management, teamwork, communication and problem solving are illustrated through interactive team games.
