      Mentor - Renee Cartaya

In 2007, Renee Cartaya, a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles, was matched with Chantelle, a 7th grade mentee at Wilson Middle School.  Going above and beyond the required program commitment, Renee requested to be matched with another Wilson mentee, Ariana.  Renee thrives at making sure they received a quality education inside and outside the classroom.

In 2008, Renee and mentor Jackie Gish formed a book club with their mentees and covered material including The Secret Life of Bees, Three Cups of Tea, and other contemporary and literary classics.  Pasta dinners and play dates with Queenie, the dog, are common occurrences at the Cartaya home.  Now in high school, Chantelle and Ariana have blossomed into vibrant, mature young ladies focused on their studies and on the college bound track.  Renee now serves on the board as Membership Sub-chair and encourages any women interested in becoming a MOSTE mentor to contact her for more details.
