MOSTE rises to national prominence with Maybelline’s
2007 Empower Through Education Award.

Lois Frankel, founder of MOSTE, Motivating Our Students Through Experience, was one of four women to be honored as Women Who Empower Through Education by Maybelline New York. Lois and the other three women are featured in a full page of the Nov. 5 issue of People magazine.

Lois was presented with a $10,000 check for MOSTE, an L.A.-based mentoring, scholarship and college access program she started 20 years ago. At the Nov. 1 event in New York City, Lois was cited for her commitment to providing inner-city girls with positive role models and creating a program that changes lives.

“We are proud to honor these inspiring women who use the power of education to change lives,” Maybelline New York says in introducing the awardees.

“We are so pleased that Lois was selected from candidates nationwide to receive this award,” said Mary Forgione, president of MOSTE. “We knew that Lois was a visionary by starting a college-incentive program with 7 th graders; now everyone will know how truly worthy and wonderful this woman and her ideas are.”

MOSTE is a one-on-one L.A. mentoring organization dedicated to helping underserved girls realize their dream of going to college. MOSTE combines personal growth with academic skill-building as the key to breaking the cycle of gang involvement, reducing teen pregnancy rates, preventing substance abuse and reducing school dropout rates. Recognizing the importance of offsetting the negative pressures that begin early in these girls’ lives, MOSTE partners with five L.A-area middle schools to operate its unique program. More MOSTE, a companion high school program launched in 2007, connects the dots by continuing to support, prepare and track these underserved students through high school. Lois Frankel of Pasadena, California, is president of Corporate Coaching International, a California-based consulting firm that specializes in executive coaching, leadership development and team building. Dr. Frankel is also an L.A.-area radio personality, a sought-after keynote speaker and bestselling author. A portion of the proceeds of her latest book “See Jane Lead, 99 Ways for Women to Take Charge at Work” is donated to MOSTE.
